Terms of Service

Last updated: 11 April 2026
These terms govern your use of TrackSat. By accessing or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use TrackSat. In plain language: use the service in good faith, don't expect guarantees, and if anything goes wrong we're not liable for the consequences of relying on satellite data you saw here.

1. Who we are

TrackSat ("we", "us", "our") is an independent project operated by Luc Python, based in Switzerland. These terms apply to the website at tracksat.app and any related services we provide.

2. What TrackSat does

TrackSat is a real-time satellite tracking web app. It displays the positions of satellites, rockets, and deep-space spacecraft using publicly-available data from NASA, the European Space Agency, CelesTrak, The Space Devs, and other sources listed on our About page. Core features are free. A Pro subscription unlocks additional features.

3. Who can use TrackSat

You may use TrackSat if you are at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, whichever is higher). By using the service you confirm you meet this requirement.

4. Acceptable use

You agree to use TrackSat lawfully and in good faith. Specifically, you agree not to:

5. Data accuracy — please read this

TrackSat is an informational and educational service. Satellite positions are computed from publicly-available orbital data (TLE / SGP4) and are subject to the inherent accuracy limits of that data. Deep-space mission positions come from NASA's Horizons system but are cached and may be minutes to hours old.

TrackSat is not suitable for:

If you need operational-grade satellite data, use official sources such as Space-Track.org, NASA/JPL directly, or a commercial space situational awareness provider.

6. Intellectual property

The TrackSat name, logo, design, code, and original illustrations are the intellectual property of their respective owners. Open-source components are governed by their own licenses (see the About page).

Satellite data, mission photography, and other third-party content displayed on TrackSat belong to the agencies and providers credited on our About page. Most are in the public domain or made available under permissive licenses, but each underlying source retains its own terms.

You may link to TrackSat freely. You may screenshot and share what you see on TrackSat for personal, educational, or journalistic purposes with attribution. For any other use please contact us.

7. Third-party services and data

TrackSat relies on data feeds and services operated by third parties, including NASA, CelesTrak, The Space Devs, Open Notify, and others. We have no control over these providers and are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or content of their data. If a third-party service is down, TrackSat features that depend on it may also be unavailable.

8. Pro subscription

TrackSat offers an optional paid "Pro" subscription that unlocks additional features. Payment is processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you agree to Stripe's terms of service. Subscription fees are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis, are non-refundable except where required by law, and you can cancel at any time from your account settings — cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

We reserve the right to change Pro pricing and feature availability with reasonable notice. Price changes will not affect your current billing period.

9. Service availability

We aim to keep TrackSat available 24/7 but make no guarantees. The service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, upgrades, or due to factors outside our control (outages at our hosting provider, upstream data provider issues, etc.). We are not liable for any losses caused by service unavailability.

10. Disclaimers

TrackSat is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, availability, and non-infringement.

We make no promise that TrackSat will meet your specific needs, that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that its content is accurate, complete, or current. You use the service at your own risk.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Swiss law, TrackSat and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, business interruption, or reliance on any information obtained through the service — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

In any case, our total cumulative liability to you for any claims arising from or related to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for Pro access in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) CHF 100.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless TrackSat, its operator, and its affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your misuse of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of the rights of any third party.

13. Changes to the service or these terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue TrackSat at any time, with or without notice. We may also update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and display a notice in the app. Continued use of TrackSat after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the substantive laws of Switzerland, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).

Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the ordinary courts of Switzerland. If you are a consumer resident in the EU or EEA, you may also bring claims before the courts of your country of residence, as provided by mandatory consumer protection law.

15. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect. The unenforceable provision will be replaced with an enforceable one that comes closest to the original intent.
